Renovated Chartreuse near LectoureWith pool
Secluded garden
Tucked away behind a farmyard at the end of a line of trees, this pretty renovated chartreuse is not easy to find and feels very protected from the busy town only a few minutes away.
You are not isolated here, but you are very private, and in the summer months the tall bamboo forest at the bottom of the garden is the perfect barrier between you and the distant neighbor.
After parking your car in the shelter of a big walnut tree you find yourself on a wide sloping lawn in front of the house. The terraced swimming pool is on a lower level and not visible from here – ideal for sunbathing privately even when there are unexpected visitors!

The house itself has been added to and improved over time. The present owners bought the property over 30 years ago and loved it so much they have done everything to preserve the spirit of an old French country home – but they have added the big swimming pool and a very English bathroom and still spend all their holidays here.
A large arched window with double doors opens to a stone-walled front hall. On the right is the dining room, perfect for candle-lit dinners. On the left, a large living room with original tiled floors and a large open fireplace. A small room currently used for storage and a bedroom both open on to the living room.
The kitchen is big enough to hold a scrubbed wooden table for four and an island. It has a feel of not having changed much in the last 50 years. Behind the kitchen, there is a WC and a door to the large attached barn where the boiler, fuel tank and firewood are kept.
Upstairs there are 4 more bedrooms, a shower room and a big modern bathroom which includes a walk-in shower, a big tub, a sink and a WC. At the end of the hall a large attic room is just waiting to be put to use.
A large barn is attached to the other side of the house and also has big double doors overlooking the garden. It has served as a playroom to the children of the current owners but could just as easily be converted to a large family room.
The small orchard planted behind the house produces enough plums and figs to make jam for the whole year, and Lectoure is only a 5-minute drive in case you have forgotten to pick up an essential ingredient. There are views across the countryside from the front lawn, and a small lake belonging to the neighbors is a great place to watch for migrating birds.
The west-facing swimming pool and terrace are on a lower level and the pool house is built into the retaining wall. As a result, it is almost completely invisible unless you are actually on the pool deck.
In the summer months a long wooden table is set out under the shade of a tree on the front lawn, the perfect place to entertain friends or settle in with a glass of something cool and a good book.
A lovely peaceful oasis just outside the busy town of Lectoure, and within walking distance (if you are in good shape), this house makes an ideal holiday home. With just a bit of renovation, it could be a really comfortable full-time residence.
Our thoughts here at Bliss:
The large play room could be converted into a huge bright living room with a wood burner which would also heat the attic room above it. This could be made into a big master bedroom and the small end bedroom would make a good en suite shower room.
While the kitchen is very charming and functional, it would be quite easy to take out the old wood burning oven (which is not working), and put in a big range to replace the current stove.
