Near Montréal

The house is built in stone, with a paved terrace and swimming pool in front. Behind, a shady patio beneath a tree. Beyond that, the garden and open countryside await. The setting offers a different place to settle throughout the day, without ever leaving the property.

Inside, the beams, stone and terracotta remain. The rooms are light and spacious enough for everyone to find their place, even when the house is full.

The property

The entrance leads into a hallway with a series of vaulted openings. The kitchen is generous, with a dining table, exposed roof structure and glazed opening onto the patio. It’s the kind of room where one is happy to linger long after dessert is over.

Next to it, the conservatory sits between the kitchen and the large sitting room. Its windows open the space onto the outdoors, with a door leading directly onto the terrace. It is a place for daytime meals, with the garden always in view.

The sitting room is large enough to accommodate a sitting area, dining table and billiard table. At one end, a quieter corner offers somewhere to retreat from the conversation without leaving the room. The conservatory naturally connects this generous living space with the kitchen, allowing guests to come and go freely between the two.

A second, more intimate sitting room is currently used as a television room and office. Its original fireplace provides the room’s focal point. A light staircase leads from here to a large room beneath the sloping roof.

The property currently enjoys two bedrooms. In the first, a wooden ceiling sits above pale walls. The second retains exposed stone and a beautiful sense of height. A spacious bathroom is bathed in natural light through a glazed opening.

A very large garage connects to the former wine store. Together, these spaces offer potential to extend the habitable area, subject to the feasibility of the project and the necessary planning permissions.

La pool and garden

The swimming pool occupies the paved terrace in front of the house. The surrounding buildings define the space and give it a degree of privacy. It takes only a few steps to return inside for a book, a glass or the towel left behind.

At the rear, the patio has a different rhythm. The tree provides welcome shade, while a table and a few chairs are all that is needed to create a place for spending the entire afternoon.

Beyond the walls, the garden opens onto the surrounding countryside. Mature trees punctuate the lawn, with the views extending well beyond the house and its terraces.

Our thoughts here at Bliss

This is not a house which relies on one beautiful room or one beautiful view. Instead, it offers several different ways to enjoy it: the large sitting room when everyone is together, the fireplace room for a quiet evening, the conservatory for lunch, the patio for reading in the shade. And, of course, the swimming pool when summer returns.

What I would do if this property were mine

I would first take the time to see how the light moves through the house as the seasons change. I would put a large table in the patio and leave the billiard table exactly where it is: it gives the sitting room one more reason to stay up late.

Who will love this property — and who might not?

Those who appreciate stone houses, and homes designed for entertaining and days spent as much outdoors as in. The two existing bedrooms would suit a couple or a small family. Those wanting more space could explore the potential offered by the garage and former wine store.

This property will be less suited to buyers looking for a completely contemporary interior or those who would rather not take on the upkeep of a swimming pool and garden.
