Superb property from the Middle Age

The remarkable architecture of the property is complemented by a charming “L” shaped garden which wraps around the “fairy-tale” tower.
With a colourful history, the property has been a sanctuary for both monks and nuns over the years.
The property though once a fine ecclesiastical building is now a private residence which has been partially restored and has all the makings of a large and magnificent family home.
The grandeur of the building owes much to the fifty-one-step stone spiral staircase which dates back to the time of the original construction.
The staircase runs from the underground cellar, to the top of the house and to the rounded rooftop, which once housed the pigeons which would have been reared as a food source for the residents of the house.
With period floor tiles, the ground floor has recently undergone renovations and has a relatively small contemporary style kitchen, with a door to the side garden.
On the other side of the hallway is a room, which although currently used as a downstairs bedroom, could also be used as a dining-room with easy access to the kitchen. This room contains a wooden partition, divided into two separate spaces, which were perhaps once used as small bedrooms for the nuns.
The rear section of the property, at the end of the hallway, opens out into a large reception/dining-room area. The dining room-room and reception room are superficially divided by ‘colombages’ or the old oak framework of the original stud wall.
The current owner has begun restoration work to this floor, but will need to take these through the final stages.
Works to the property are at a stage where it is a blank canvass and the new owner can make personal choices for the fixtures and fittings of bathrooms. The windows have been replaced in wood and double-glazed.
Above the first floor there is an attic space, which offers a substantial amount of space. There would be room for a bedroom and an en-suite, but there is no natural light and planning permission would be required for the addition of a window.
The property is both heated (and cooled in the summer) via a heat exchange system, and the house has been recently rewired.
WHAT WE THINK
This spacious property requires completion, but the architecture alone will always command attention, making any investment in this property a worthwhile project.
The garden is charming, and although not immense, would suit a curate’s style garden.
It is easy to imagine what one could do with this space: an abundance of roses growing along the old stone walls, a pretty carpet of flowers lain at the foot of a building which is guaranteed to draw the eye forever upwards, to the tower and blue skies above.
NB: Our working relationships are built on mutual trust with our vendors. By so doing we are able to show photographs which clearly indicate the location of a property. This is not current practice in France. However, it should be noted in such cases that the current owner has chosen to advertise exclusively with our agency as he/she does not wish to enter into negotiations privately with potential buyers or to be contacted directly, choosing to remunerate an agency instead of handling the sale privately. All agency fees are payable by the VENDOR. We cordially invite all buyers interested in viewing a property to contact our agency. We are happy to advise and help throughout the process.
