Overview

Perched on the edge of the lively market town of Saint Clar, in the heart of the golden triangle, this ‘maison d’architecte’ was re-built in 2003.  Originally a small hamlet, this property perfectly combines the beauty of the surrounding countryside with the convenience of all amenities and village life accessible on foot, albeit up a somewhat long drive!  At least it’s downhill on the way home …

As we arrive at the property, passing the orchard of fruit trees, we are immediately taken by the breathtaking views of the Gers countryside and a nearby village château.  It is hard to draw our eyes away to admire the lines and angles of the architect-designed house.

The first building to come into view is the stone car port which houses two vehicles and through which we access the front door of the house.

Before entering the house itself, we are once again distracted by the views and also by the pool which has been built into the shelter of the house and the car port.  It is a wonderful sun trap for those wishing to develop a glowing sun-kissed torso!

Finally entering the house, we are immediately hit by the light which streams in from the glass roof in the centre of the house.  It shines and reflects everywhere.  There are remote-controlled blinds which cover the glass when it rains or when it gets too hot in the summer.

To the left of the entrance is a very useful pantry, a WC with hand basin and a cloakroom cupboard for coats, shoes etc.

Moving through towards the staircase, to the right, and down a few steps, we discover the open plan kitchen and living room.  Again, the light hits us.  There are doors and windows on every side of this fabulous space, all of which allow us to appreciate the views from a different angle.  We are particularly drawn through the big French doors on to the covered terrace, this is very definitely an extension of the living room, somewhere to be enjoyed through most seasons of the year, and a place from which the owners love to watch the wildlife roaming the countryside.

The kitchen is currently enclosed by glass panes overlooking the sitting room, but could be easily opened up if preferred.  It is fully fitted and equipped, a very functional place to cook and prepare offerings for your guests.

The weeping fig in the corner of the dining area is an unusual feature. It has survived the house being a second home for several years, very robust!  Despite the luminosity of this house, it becomes very cosy when the fire is lit.  The current owners love being warm and toasty in the sitting room whilst watching the magnificent electric storms that are part of the gascon weather.

Back up a few steps from the living room is the first guest room with its ensuite bathroom.  All of the bedrooms have fitted cupboard storage, and this one also benefits from its own south facing terrace.

In the middle of the ground floor, we find a lovely large office space which also serves as access to the twin bedroom, with an ensuite shower room, and to the boiler and utility room.  The house is heated by an efficient oil-fired central heating system.

Having completed the ground floor, the modern white staircase takes us upstairs where we find another guestroom with ensuite.  We note that this one enjoys a small balcony where some lucky guests could savour their morning croissant.  Last, but no means least, we find the master bedroom.  It has obviously been chosen for its secret balcony and the lovely westerly views, perfect for a cheeky sundowner …..

Having finished the tour of the house itself, we’re back outside.  Up, behind the house, is the fruit orchard we passed on our way in, and an outbuilding which serves as storage for garden equipment and tools, as well as a workshop.  In front of the house, the land slopes down to a pond.

    Our thoughts here at Bliss

This property is ideal for anyone who wants to enjoy the peace of being in the countryside but also wants easy access to shops. The house is perfect as a holiday home, easy to lock up and leave, but it could also work as a lovely full-time home.

We love the covered terrace and pool area.  We can easily imagine sitting, peacefully admiring the views, reading or enjoying a long, leisurely, supper on a balmy evening ….
