Overview<\/h2>\n

Situated in the lush, verdant countryside of the southern Lot & Garonne, this stunning abode dominates its small village setting while remaining private and intimate.<\/p>\n

Access is gained through tall, wrought iron gates and along a magnificent drive flanked by 40 mature cedars. Wide smooth lawns are set out on each side, and we catch glimpses of a young orchard on one side, a large, fenced swimming pool on the other.<\/p>\n

The property itself is revealed at the end of the drive. Originally built in the 13th century and added to in the 16th century, this is a building meant to inspire respect, with its high, smooth stone walls and imposing fa\u00e7ade. However, once on the inside, it is surprisingly light-filled and features wonderfully high ceilings, exposed wooden beams and monumental stone and brick fireplaces.<\/p>\n

Tall windows overlook the park and ensure that all the main rooms are flooded with light. Smaller stained-glass windows on the west side of the building add warmth and character, while all windows have handy interior shutters.<\/p>\n

Ground floor<\/h2>\n

The main door to the house faces the park and is accessible via stone steps. We enter and find ourselves in what was once a medieval hall and is now a large and comfortable living space featuring a monumental functional fireplace, tall windows overlooking the park and underfloor heating.<\/p>\n

Beautifully decorated in a style that is at once elegantly modern while also respecting the history of the site, this is a stunning room that will impress visitors and remain a favourite spot for family and friends.<\/p>\n

From here a door leads to the large kitchen which has equally high ceilings as well as a monumental fireplace, not currently in use, a traditional sink fashioned in local Vianne stone, a double stove, and flagged floors with underfloor heating. The tall windows add cachet and there is access directly to the garden by means of a side door.<\/p>\n

First floor<\/h2>\n

A winding stone staircase with an iron handrail provide access from the garden level all the way to the tower at the top of the house.
\nOur first stop is the first floor.<\/p>\n

On the right-hand side, the first bedroom suite is truly magnificent. We enter through a large antechamber with parquet flooring and tall made-to-measure built-in wardrobes. There is room here for a single bed or sofa, or even an office. A modern, fully equipped shower room follows, but the eye is immediately drawn to the bedroom beyond. Here we are greeted by the same high ceilings and expertly restored stone walls as in the great hall on the ground floor. Two charming medieval openings attest to the history of the home, and there also two large windows and attractive terra cotta floor tiles.<\/p>\n

The monumental stone fireplace has been closed for maximal comfort, as all rooms on the first and second floor are centrally heated.<\/p>\n

On the left side of the landing, a second bedroom has its own character. This vast room enjoys a stunning wooden fireplace (not in use) and large stained-glass windows. The flooring is polished parquet.<\/p>\n

Second floor<\/h2>\n

The second floor has the same layout as the first floor, so that on the right side of the landing there is a large suite with an antechamber and shower room.<\/p>\n

The bedroom here is filled with light from stained glass windows and features a small stone alcove with tiny medieval windows that only serves the purpose of bringing joy to those who inhabit the room.<\/p>\n

The fourth and last bedroom somewhat ressembles a loft, with its high exposed beams, painted white to blend in with the more modern d\u00e9cor of this room. There is a large built-in closet and a spacious modern bathroom with views over the park.<\/p>\n

Garden level<\/h2>\n

The medieval stone stairs that lead to the bedrooms also allow us to access the lower level of the house where there is a superb, vaulted wine cellar. Behind this is a large workshop where the current owner creates elegant ceramics in shades of white. Here is also where the furnace room is located. There is a separate WC which has been recently renovated and access to the grounds via a door in the workshop.<\/p>\n

Grounds<\/h2>\n

Although there is an entrance at the back of the chateau, with a beautiful medieval stone portal, its gardens face the front and provide an attractive frame for the majesty of the house itself.<\/p>\n

The highlight of the grounds is the long, cedar-lined driveway, which serves to protect the chateau from prying eyes and adds to the overall charm and cachet of the property.<\/p>\n

Set to the left of the chateau, and at a short distance, a large swimming pool measuring 6 by 12 metres is surrounded by a fence with a wrought iron gate. A small side building in stone and wood houses the pool pump and filtration system.<\/p>\n
