Where are we?

In a charming Gascon village, a minute’s walk from all the local amenities and in the older, cultural part of town we find this deceptively compact house. Removed from the main road, we find ourselves in a quiet and spacious street, next to the town’s beautiful old well.

The property stands tall on the corner, made of the ubiquitous white stone famous in the south west of France.

The Entrance

As we come into the the lovely tiled hallway with high ceilings we get a glimpse of the pool surrounded by its wild vines but more on that later…

To our right we arrive into a study with terracotta tiles, a large south facing window and apparent stone walls. An original wooden door opens up onto the living room.

The Kitchen

To the left of the hallway we step into a large open space kitchen, with wooden countertops, grand double glazed windows and a new wood stove to heat this spacious room.
Adjoining this room is the cellar with high shelves and storage fitting of the kitchen.

The Summer Room

 This room is the largest and most versatile of the house with its exposed ceiling wooden beams and three glass doors opening onto the courtyard. From a cosy living space in winter to a grandiose extension of the covered terrace in summer where your guests and friends can enjoy the pool and BBQ this room is the center of the life in the house.

For those summer months there is a very conveniently located and spacious shower room with its own WC and sink you can access before returning to the rest of the house.

The Inner Courtyard

 A combination of a Moroccan hidden courtyard and the lush greenery of a summer garden make this space a particularly stunning feature of the house. With its fairly large pool, covered terrace, and remarkable lighting throughout the day we can’t help but be impressed.
Acting as the centrepiece of the property we have two doors connecting to the ground floor and two accesses to the upper floor, either through the inconspicuous stone stairs in the corner leading to the balcony and its en suite bedroom or through the garage and into the large mezzanine.

Let’s walk along the pool, passing by the wall mounted fountain, and back into main hallway.

The Living Room

Before we go up the wide staircase to our right we have can enter into the spacious living room with its terracotta tiles, high ceilings and two large double glazed windows. A good sized room which currently combines as both a library and sitting room, this place will make you want to pick up a good book and read by the large insert in the fireplace while enjoying the abundant natural sunlight. We have a direct access to the study and, through the hallway, back into the kitchen.

The Demi Palier

As we go up the original wooden staircase we arrive at a “demi palier” and step into a smaller bedroom facing north and with a view onto the courtyard and pool below. As we continue through this room we arrive into the first en suite Bedroom with high white walls, seagrass flooring, exposed wooden beams and sunlight streaming through. This room is large enough for a good size bed, a lounging area, its own shower room and gives access to the large balcony overlooking the courtyard.

Master Bedroom

As we climb up the last step we arrive into a wide corridor which gives access to the upstairs bedrooms. To the right, facing south, we have the master bedroom, a classic example of a maison de maitre style room, with very high ceilings, ample lighting and space, the quintessential aged oak floorboards and fireplace. A grandiose room fitting for the house itself.
It also has its own bath and shower room, with room enough for two people to share.

Bedroom 3

This bedroom is adjacent to the master room and a smaller version of it, with the corresponding high ceiling and floorboards and its own little basin. This room could also well be used as a sports room or additional study to be paired with the master bedroom.

Bedroom 4

The first room we can go through from the stair’s landing is no smaller than the main bedroom and just as impressive. The fireplace and east facing windows could make this a lovely living room  but could just as well be kept as a stunning bedroom for your family or guests.

Vestibule

An interesting area with its original windows and wooden frames which can be opened fully to almost make this room into a covered terrace overlooking the pool. A shower room has been added in recent years a little further down and could either be kept as such for the bedroom, arranged into a larger dressing or simply kept as an extension of the vestibule. 

The Mezzanine

Either through the vestibule or from the 4th bedroom we can walk down a small corridor into a surprisingly large room built on top of the garage. Two windows facing east and west bring light in at all times of day and make for a great place to enjoy sunsets. It has been built as an independent area with its shower room and large living space and could definitely become a comfortable and convenient artist’s retreat separated from the main house.
The size of the walls and distance from the living spaces makes this a great place to practice your latest music or isolate yourself from the outside world.
 

Cette pièce fut pensée comme un espace autonome, avec un accès indépendant depuis le jardin, une douche privée et un coin salon. Cette mezzanine est idéale pour faire un refuge pour invités ou artistes, étant totalement séparée de la maison principale. 

L’épaisseur des murs et la distance de la maison principale en font un endroit idéal pour jouer du cor ou pour vous isoler du monde extérieur. 

The Garage

Either through the large double doors leading outside, from the gated courtyard or down the mezzanine’s stairs we can access the garage with room for a car and a separate area for all your tools. A useful area to have in the center of a village for sure!  




    What We Think At BLISS

    We have been charmed and delighted to walk through the house and discover each room, our minds racing with the potential and the size of the place. This property could be renovated into a beautiful and impressive gem in the heart of a bustling village.
    It will however require some work, having not been lived in for a certain amount of time.
