Hidden gem in woodland and meadows

Approaching the Château down a long private tree-lined avenue, meadows littered with wildflowers to each side, the first glimpse of this beautiful château will stay in one’s mind forever.
It is a vision of architectural grace and beauty which conjures instantly to mind images of horse & carriages, dancing and house parties, along with the promise of the magic and elegance of a bygone era.
The château is seeped with character and charm, from top to bottom, and from the moment the grand door, at the top of a flight of stone stairs, reveals the magnificent entrance hall with its carved archways and stunning mosaic floor.

The kitchen is at the heart of the property, the Aga providing a perfect spot for the family dog to dry off after a swim in the lake.  The long wooden table is an invitation to sit and have a cup of tea while planning the menu for supper; surely a joy to host in the formal dining-room with its stained-glass windows, wooden panelling and intricate parquet flooring.  Images of ladies and gentlemen drinking claret and being served from silver platters spring to mind.

Across the entrance hall lies the more formal drawing-room, with its elegant fireplace, ornate carvings on walls and ceiling, and fabulous original flooring; an inviting place for more formal soirées. Yet with such an abundance of elegance, let us not forget that, first and foremost, this is a family home, its snug a reminder of those relaxed, cosy, evenings in front of the fire, when guests have driven off down the long driveway.

On the first floor, the high ceilings and tall windows draw in a flood of light, with fantastic woodland and parkland views. The master bedroom has a beautiful en-suite bathroom with shower, while of the other five bedrooms, two also have en-suite bath/shower rooms, and the others share a family bathroom.

Accommodation at the Château is completed with two self-contained apartments.  Accessible from the mid-landing, one of the apartments is used as two separate study rooms, while the kitchen has become the boot room.  The second apartment downstairs provides a home for the industrial sized washing machine and is also a warm harbour for plants over the winter months; a greenhouse to all intents and purposes!
The magnificent cellar is in keeping with the grandeur of the château, its 227m² providing an abundance of space for even the most generous collection of wines.

Behind the château lies a 3-bedroom maison de gardien which has been restored within the last 20 years, a 128m² workshop and a 128m² stable which houses 3 spacious Lodden stables and a tack room. All that is needed to complete the scene are the horses!
In the opposite wing there is a gîte or maison d’amis, six bedrooms in total, all with en-suite shower rooms.

    Our thoughts here at Bliss

This is a magical property. It is difficult not to imagine the joy of living here and enjoying the benefits of the tranquil parkland around the property. The long walks possible through the woodlands to the wild orchids.

It is a rare find indeed, to find a property flanked with over fifty hectares of land, on the doorstep of Fleurance and Lectoure; and in the heart of Gascony, where land is highly sought after and often difficult to acquire.

The Château itself is the stuff of fairy-tale, or TV film and drama. It’s mellow stone walls, spectacular sweeping staircase in stone to the front, its grand hallway, and array of comfortable rooms awash with character.

We particularly love the flooring, the mosaic patterned hallway, and the wooden panelling in the downstairs dining and reception room.

The property is flooded with light, and we enjoyed the views to the park through the tall windows on each side of the property.

For all its external grandeur, we love the warm and inviting interior, the kitchen with its farmhouse table and the Aga whose warmth is forever inviting after a long walk.

Perhaps most of all, we love that first view of the Château as the long drive-way winds to an end, and the sunlight bathes its impressive form in light, rendering the stone facade buttery yellow and inviting.

This is a family home to be loved down the years. A remarkable place for children to grow up in, in a world which so often feels too busy and increasingly lacking in space.  It could also be used as the base for a business, but for now at least, the ambiance is very much that of “home.”
