Overview

This sumptuous 18th century château was built in 1750 and sits in an elevated position with far-reaching views to the Pyrenees. The property has been in the same family for many years and has undergone extensive renovations providing a comfortable and elegant family home, with four bedrooms in the main house, and a second summer house in the gardens built above an old stable block.

In this property you will find every comfort:  and a great attention to detail both inside and outside.

The Entrance

The gated entrance to the front opens onto a formal gravel driveway, to the side ornamental gardens provide a delightful and shady retreat from the world.

A riot of scented roses adorn the ancient brick walls of numerous outbuildings and the romantic ruins of an ancient property that was once beside what is now the pool area.

To the rear, a lush and majestic parkland stretches down to the adjoining fields, its majestic and ancient trees providing much sought after shade in the summer months, as well as a row of private vines.

The Main House

The Ground Floor

The original front door opens onto a wide and formal entrance hall, with a view on the wide curving staircase.

Downstairs there are three main reception rooms : a music room/salon to the left of the entrance door, and to the right a formal dining room, which in turn opens onto a linen room, with shelves.

At the far end of the hallway, to the left there is a grand salon with a fireplace, and to the right entrance to the double kitchen/breakfast room, which also has a bespoke fireplace. The kitchen also has a direct and separate door that loops back through to the dining room. In the kitchen there is a central island, and a dining room table infront of the fireplace, with a door to the gardens.

All the rooms have high ceilings and tall windows overlooking the parkland, with beautiful floors in stone, or parquet. The rooms are elegant in style, with formal fireplaces, and generous proportions.

Also on the ground floor there is a utility and boiler room as well as a vast amount of useful space in the cellar area, with access via a separate internal service staircase to the roof.

The First Floor

The staircase opens onto a wide landing, which leads to four sumptuous double bedrooms, with the same high ceilings and tall windows as on the ground floor. The master bedroom provides approximately 75m² habitable space. From every room there is a pretty view over the park, the red-brick ruins that form a decorative backdrop to the pool area, or the internal courtyard.

The Outbuildings/ Guest Annexe

One particularly stunning feature to this property is the converted top half of an old stable block, which runs the length of the pool and provides splendid summer veranda, and is currently divided into two large reception rooms with a third open plan space for entertainment at the end. The summer house overlooks the pool and is arched, providing a colourful and warm Mediterranean setting to the gardens. The red brick ruins which form a theatrical backdrop to the pool area, the ornamental fish ponds, and flower gardens, ensure an arousal of the senses, and an intimate romantic setting for the summer months. There is a lovely contrast between the formal gardens and the open parkland with its ancient trees and vineyard.

On the other side of the small country road, there is an orchard with many fruit trees, another fish pond and a rose tunnel. From here there are fantastic views to the south and to the mountain range beyond.

This property is located 14km from Samatan, and just an hour from Toulouse international airport. It is located within easy reach of the mountains for lovers of ski, or the coast which is about two hours away, and also to Spain.

    Our thoughts here at Bliss

Lovers of comfortable yet elegant country homes, with oodles of space, high ceilings, and the formality of a drawing-room, music room, and formal dining-room, will be drawn to this property. If you see yourself entertaining in a lovely old French manor house, with crackling fires in the winter, or alfresco meals against a backdrop of red brick and rose, then you will easily visualise yourself in this home. Standing up on the top floor of the summer annexe and overlooking the lovely pool area and impressive formal grounds, one can’t help but feel impressed at the number of verdant nooks and crannies, in which to set an outside table for lunch, or nestle down with a book in the shade. The fish bubble at the surface of the ponds nudging the flowering water lilies; the rustle of ancient trees in the park beyond; all of these things arouse the senses. This is a quiet location, and yet easily accessible from the busy outside world. It has been shown the love and attention of a family home over the years, and cared for passionately, and this is very much apparent as we view each room. Every inch of the property has been tended to with love and care.
